The Annual Vestry Meeting will be held following the worship service on the morning of Sunday, February 9, 2025. Both the worship service and the AVM will be led by Ven. Dr. Victor-David Mbuyi-Bipungu, Archdeacon of St. Andrew. It is time to reflect on the last year and look ahead to see what 2025 will offer to this faithful congregation. If you have reports to submit, please send them to Edna Hall before January 25th.
Welcome to St. Simeon's
Saying Goodbye
On Sunday, January 12, 2025, we said our goodbyes to Rev'd Nick Brotherwood. Nick has been priest-in-charge of St. Simeons on a third-time basis for the past three years and we are ever grateful for his ministry amongst us. We wish Nick all the best as he heads into a new phase of life - the wonderful retirement years.
Following our worship service, St. Simeon's held a small reception for Nick, serving scones with jams, clotted cream, and veggies and cheeses. The presence of other local church members evidenced the true sense of Nick's ministry within this community. He has been involved with Bible studies at a local Senior Apartment building, services at a local Senior's Residence, an on-line Bible study within the deanery, and many other ecumenical events and projects. St. Simeon's has a new sign!
Thanks to Darren Prentice for creating and installing this beautiful new sign in front of our church. Thank you Darren for your creativity and for your resourcefulness. Our thanks also go to Marion Hodge, who painted the small replica of the church. We are very grateful. For pictures, please click on Read More
Video Series based on the Beatitudes
Reflections from the Library is a series of 9 videos about the Beatitudes. These videos are scripted, recorded and presented by Gordon and Rolanda McPhee and they have generously offered them to us for publication on our You Tube channel. The entire series is now on-line. Enjoy. Click on ReadMore for more information and for the links to the videos.
Some History
Some historical documents for you to read:
St. Simeon's celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1980, two years following the actual date in 1878 when the first resident clergyman (the Rev. H. J. Evans) was appointed to the Parish. A booklet was created in 1980 to celebrate the anniversary and included in this booklet was a brief history of the Parish and a description of the activities and groups in the church at the time. At the time of the celebration of the 100th Anniversary, the Rev. Trevor Jones was our incumbent. I remember that there was a big dinner and a special Sunday service with many local dignitaries and clergy present. (Click on History and description to see these documents)
Family Services
On the Third Sunday of each month, St. Simeon's offers a Family Service for people of all ages. These services offer a relaxed format of Service of the Word, featuring guitar-led music and lay-led worship (with the support of Rev'd Nick Brotherwood, our Priest-in-charge).
We are very thankful for the ministry of Gordon McPhee, who not only plans these services, but also leads the singing and offers his thoughtful homilies to those who attend. There is a strong team of lay leaders who also take part in this joyous service of worship to God.
This Family service will be held on the third Sunday of each month at 10 am. All are welcome.
